Product Description
Modular knitting is knitting smaller pieces of fabric and joining them together to form your knitted project. There are many techniques of modular knitting and this class will focus on mitered squares. I’m sure you’ve seen those blankets composed of many small knitted mitered squares. We will cover several methods of knitting mitered squares and how to join them as you go (JAYG) so there is no seaming.
Supplies: Several scrap balls of yarn in different colors, and a knitting needle that is the appropriate size for your yarn. I would recommend worsted or DK as it is easier to see your stitches, but if you have a lot of leftover sock yarns and want to use that, you can. Several locking and regular stitch markers. Tapestry needle to weave in ends.
Homework: Using the long tail method, cast on 24 stitches.
Set up row: K 12 stitches, pm, k to end of row.
Row 1: Knit 10 stitches, K2tog, SM, SSK, k to end of row. This is your right side. Place a locking stitch marker to indicate the right side.
Row 2: Knit all stitches, slipping marker when you come to it.
Repeat these 2 rows until you have 4 stitches left on the needle and have finished a row 2 and leave the stitches Moon the needle.
This class is taught by Judy Rising. The class runs from 10am to 1pm on Saturday Mar 14, 2026, at LoftyFiber. The fee $40.00 and fee must be paid in advance to reserve your spot.
