Rolling in Rigid Heddle Looms

Left-- The Ashford Looms: The Ashford Rigid Knitter's Loom (Top) & The Knitter's Loom (Bottom) Right-- The Schacht Looms: The Flip Loom (Top) & The Cricket Loom (Bottom)     The Rigid Heddle is one of my favorite types of looms. It’s quick to set up, affordable, and it really lets you get to know basic weaving techniques. On top of that, there are so many four shaft patterns that can be accomplished on a rigid heddle loom by just manipulating the threads with a pick up stick. What is a Rigid Heddle Loom? On a multishift loom, there are...

Adventures in Inkle Looms

I started my adventure into inkle weaving, because I was looking for a way to make a decorative woven drawstring for a skirt. The complex look of the inkle patterns that I liked online made me a little hesitant, but what I found was that inkle weaving is actually a lot easier than it looks! What is an Inkle Loom? Inkle looms are a fun, easy way to weave narrow warp-faced strips. These bands are found in textile traditions all...

New - Warping with Two Sets of Lease Sticks

We've had requests to support two sets of lease sticks with our Helping Hands product.   This is useful when there are many color changes or when the weaver wants the freedom to "design color" while warping, choosing from two warps. We've just developed this for the Spring II loom. If you would like to see this on another loom, please let us know so we can prioritize our development queue! See the pictures on the product listing for this add-on to the Spring II Helping Hands for a visual of how this works!  https://loftyfiber.com/collections/helping-hands-for-beaming-and-threading/products/helping-hands-spring-double

Square Dance Runner - Handwoven March-April 2023

Square Dance Runner - Handwoven March-April 2023

Weave the lovely Square Dance Runner out of the March-April 2023 Handwoven magazine by Sarah Jackson!   This simple pattern is terrific for a first project using linen.  The Euroflax 14/2 linen for this is sett at 18 ends per inch. One 8-ounce cone of each color (shown in Navy and Marine Blue) is enough for the project with the 4-yard warp as described in the Handwoven magazine.  We plan to weave this in another two analogous colors.. hmmmm.  decisions decisions.... Here's the link for the yarn: https://loftyfiber.com/collections/euroflax-yarn-collection/products/euroflax-14-2-lace-weight-linen-cones
